Biography

Jonathan Hornby is a Managing Director with Alvarez and Marsal Taxand UK in London. Mr. Hornby has more than 21 years of corporate tax experience. He works extensively with multinational organisations, operating across a range of industry sectors including retail, real estate, technology, manufacturing, management consultancy, natural resources and utilities.

Mr. Hornby advises clients on all aspects of corporate taxation, with a particular focus on international structuring, tax efficient financing, acquisitions, disposals and cross-border mergers.

He has extensive hands-on experience of providing tax compliance services including tax reporting under U.K. GAAP and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) for publicly listed groups and the preparation of corporate tax returns for clients across numerous industry sectors.

Mr. Hornby’s recent assignments have included: leading the delivery of fully outsourced compliance and reporting services for a complex U.K. listed group of companies; advising on the U.K. aspects of a post-merger integration of two overseas parented groups in the technology sector; provision of advice on hybrid financing arrangements for a major French multinational; and, advice on the publication of tax strategy for a luxury goods retailer.

He has also led the U.K. tax advice on the Lehman Brothers Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings for the past five years.

Prior to A&M, Mr. Hornby spent 11 years with Deloitte in London as a member of the international tax team, responsible for serving large corporate clients.

He takes a keen interest in tax policy and has been directly involved in consulting with U.K. tax authorities on a number of significant changes to the taxation of multinationals in the U.K. He is frequently quoted in the financial press on taxation matters.

Mr. Hornby earned a first-class honours degree in chemistry from the University of Sheffield. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
