Biography

Takashi Saida is a partner at Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu.  He is experienced in various types of corporate transactions, especially complex international transactions, financial transactions and corporate restructuring transactions. He also advises on tax planning for high-net-worth individuals and multinational enterprises.

Being focused on and specialised in tax matters, he regularly represents taxpayers in tax controversy cases (including audits). His representative engagements include the inheritance tax court case where he effectively succeeded in having the court nullify a part of the basic rule regarding valuation of a closely-held corporation and the transfer pricing dispute case where he successfully had the tax authorities cancel on appeal, an assessment against a multinational enterprise amounting to several billion yen.

Needless to say, he also advises on non-litigious tax matters in various types of transactions.

He graduated with an LL.B. from the University of Tokyo in 1994 and with an LL.M. from Harvard Law School in 1997. He also obtained an M.B.A. in the United States. He previously worked at the Ministry of Finance as a deputy legal examiner and at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP as an associate.
