Biography

I joined Edward Nathan Sonnenbergs as a Tax Manager in 2017 and completed my articles of clerkship with the firm in 2020. I was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in June 2021.

Prior to this, I obtained my BCom Law degree and LLB from the University of Johannesburg in 2005 and 2007, respectively. I then entered the tax graduate programme at KPMG while also completing a Higher Diploma in Tax Law at the University of Johannesburg. I completed the graduate programme in 2009 and became a qualified tax consultant in 2010. In 2013, I joined SEACOM as the head of tax for the SEACOM Group.

My experience includes advising clients on setting and reviewing their tax strategies and transactions from a technical tax perspective, as well as drafting opinions on a variety of corporate income tax issues and preparing responses to and liaising with the South African Revenue Service. I obtained notable experience in the field of mergers and acquisitions, tax due diligences and pre-acquisition and subsequent post-acquisition structuring of transactions. In addition, I am experienced in tax compliance and risk management, as well as international and cross-border tax issues, including transfer pricing. I have worked with clients across various industries, including primarily mining companies, telecommunications providers and financial services.
