Biography
Eduardo is based in Taxand Spain where he is the partner in charge of the tax department of Garrigues. He specialises in tax matters, especially in the banking, finance and insurance industries. He has also participated in numerous M&A transactions and is a recognised expert in accounting law and corporate law.
Eduardo’s expertise includes taxation of financial institutions and insurance companies, capital markets and financial products.
He also provides recurring advice on regulatory, tax and corporate matters in the context of the main M&A and internal restructuring transactions carried out by the above-mentioned institutions, as well as by private equity entities and those from the industrial sectors.
He has been actively involved in analysing and designing financial products and is an expert in transactions involving the issuance of debt and preference shares by national and international issuers, coordinating work with lawyers from other jurisdictions.
He has participated in some of the most high-profile State aid proceedings brought by the European Commission against Spain and in different appeals filed before the Court of Justice of the European Union.
He provides on-going assistance on tax and legal matters to the main Spanish and foreign private banking institutions and many of their principal clients.
Eduardo Abad features in several national and international legal directories such as the “International Law Office’s Client Choice Guide” and “Iberian Lawyer”. He is also listed in Chambers&Partners’ tax practice area, both in its Chambers Global edition as well as its Chambers Europe edition.
