Biography

Carlos Gomez Barrero is based in Spain where he is a partner at Garrigues. He joined Garrigues in 1991 and specialised in VAT in 1996. He leads the Spanish VAT practice since 2009. He predominantly works with major companies on VAT matters, particularly in the telecommunications, energy & utilities and financial services industries and has extensive experience in dealings with the VAT authorities. He was a member of the VAT Expert Group set up by the European Commission from its creation in 2012 till 2022 (from 2014 to 2022 representing Taxand).

His work mainly focuses on tax advice, litigation and VAT rulings. Carlos is regularly invited to speak at industry seminars and conferences as well as at seminars on indirect taxation organised by Spain’s Taxand practice, Garrigues. He has also contributed articles to specialist Spanish and international publications. He is a member of the Madrid Bar Association.
