Biography

Brian D. Pedersen is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Taxand, LLC in San Francisco. Mr. Pedersen has over 30 years of experience advising clients on multi-state income tax, sales and use tax, and property tax matters.

 

Mr. Pedersen has served clients throughout the United States and has extensive experience in the retail, energy, telecommunications and high-tech industries. At Alvarez & Marsal Taxand, he serves as a member of the Firm’s core bankruptcy and troubled companies team.  Mr. Pedersen is also the leader of the Firm’s State Income Tax Competency Team.  Additionally, Mr. Pedersen has also consulted extensively with clients in the merger, acquisition, divestiture and reorganization areas. He has also served as an expert witness in numerous tax disputes.

 

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Pedersen was a tax partner with KPMG, LLP where he was the National Partner in Charge of Income and Franchise Tax and was a member of KPMG’s retail and telecommunications teams.

 

Additionally, Mr. Pedersen was a partner at Arthur Andersen, LLP, where he led Andersen’s State and Local Tax practice for the Pacific Northwest Region.

 

Mr. Pedersen graduated from the University of Montana with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.  He frequently speaks on state and local tax matters and is an adjunct faculty member at the San Jose State University Lucas Graduate School of Business.  Mr. Pedersen has also been an adjunct faculty member at the Portland State University School of Business Administration, as well as teaching a variety of state and local tax training courses at various venues throughout the United States.  He is a licensed CPA.
