UK energy policy - Red warning lights

2 Mar 2013
UK Energy Policy has Red Warning Lights Flashing
  • Centrica has postponed all plans to construct Gas Fired Power Stations pending clarification of Government Policy and Pricing post 2015 election;
  • Nuclear Construction Consortium is approaching a critical decision point to proceed or withdraw from new construction, as argument with UK Treasury over energy pricing reaches impasse;
  • Tax Incentives for Infrastructure Construction have been withdrawn; and
  • The former Energy Minister is now in Prison for falsifying Penalty Points on his Driving Licence (he was a keen proponent of Wind Farms!).

The implication is that a coherent implemented Policy of Construction will not be in time to compensate for existing Plant closures leading to deficit in Energy availability versus demand in 2020 onwards.
