Taxand increased, from 31 last year to 33 in 2010, the number of members that have been voted top tax transactional firms by International Tax Review in an annual poll of its readers. The survey, which spanned 46 jurisdictions, gauges the opinions of tax executives, officials and advisors on tax firms' advisory strengths.

With the inclusion of Hendersen Taxand (China), and PB Taxand (Indonesia) this year, 82% of all Taxand member firms were recommended, unprompted. William Fry Tax Advisors (Ireland) and Miranda & Amado Abogadas (Peru) both migrated into the Tier I ranking from Tier II last year. 14 Taxand member firms ranked as Tier I advisors in their jurisdiction and all of the 31 Taxand members voted for previously were included for the second year running.

Fr?d?ric Donnedieu de Vabres, Chairman of Taxand commented:
"The recognition for Taxand in this survey demonstrates the continued quality of our advice worldwide in what has been an exceptionally difficult year for multinational businesses facing a multitude of tax issues, including increasing scrutiny, a rising number of complicated tax treaties and a push by jurisdictions to increase tax-take.

"Historically, tax structuring put in place in the M&A market has been aimed at minimising the tax cost at the time of exit or partial exit. Now clients are looking for advice that impacts directly on their current taxes. The complexity of those large scale changes to tax treaties, increases in new taxes introduced on a local level and moves by the G20 to introduce new global taxes, such as the carbon and Tobin taxes, also means that independent global tax advice from specialists on the ground, in relevant jurisdictions, is more important than ever."
