Jose Lamela, Jr. is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Taxand. He has served clients in many industries with a focus on retail, electric utilities, financial services and telecommunications. 

Mr. Lamela brings more than 20 years of experience advising clients on a diverse range of tax matters. His primary focus is on consulting related to SFAS 109, FIN 48, SFAS 5, Sarbanes-Oxley 404 remediation, the development and improvement of tax processes and tax department outsourcing. Mr. Lamela also brings considerable experience in advising large companies on state and local income/franchise tax issues, and in conducting reviews and developing structural planning related to acquisitions and dispositions.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Lamela spent 14 years with the Tax and Business Advisory practice of Arthur Andersen. Previously, he spent three years with the Tax practice of Deloitte & Touche. During his time with Arthur Andersen and Deloitte & Touche, Mr. Lamela held partner roles, serving as practice leader for the state and local tax practices of each firm in Florida. 

Mr. Lamela holds a bachelor's degree in business administration, summa cum laude, with concentrations in accounting and finance, from the University of Miami and a master's degree in taxation from Florida International University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Florida. 

Mr. Lamela has been a frequent speaker and lecturer throughout the U.S. on tax accounting, state and local taxation, and the taxation of captive insurance companies. He has also developed and taught state and local tax training programs at Andersen and Deloitte, and has developed and taught tax accounting and 404 remediation training programs at Alvarez & Marsal. Mr. Lamela is a member of various professional and civic organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Lamela is fluent in Spanish and conversational in French.
