Felipe Mariani is based in Taxand Puerto Rico where he is a partner at Zaragoza & Alvarado LLP. With nearly 15 years of experience in tax consulting and compliance, Felipe has provided client representation before the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, the P.R. Treasury Department and other local tax authorities; he has also been involved in the negotiation of tax exemption grants at the state and municipal levels. Felipe has conducted research on income, property, excise and municipal license tax issues, and he has participated in the preparation and negotiation of ruling requests and closing agreements with Treasury and review, as well as the preparation of individual and corporate P.R. and U.S. tax returns.
Before joining Puerto Rico's Taxand practice, Zaragoza & Alvarado LLP, Felipe was tax manager at Arthur Andersen LLP's Tax and Business Advisory Services Practice in San Juan. He also spent more than six years as a tax and audit professional in a local CPA firm. He has been a speaker at various tax seminars, both in-house and those sponsored by professional associations.
Felipe has a Bachelor's Degree in business administration from the University of Puerto Rico and a Master's Degree in accounting with a major in taxation from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a member of the Puerto Rico State Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
