Gertjan Hesselberth

Gertjan Hesselberth is based in Taxand Netherlands where he is with VMW Taxand. Gertjan has studied tax and corporate law at the University of Maastricht. He started his professional career in 1996 at Arthur Andersen in Amsterdam (now Deloitte). Within Andersen / Deloitte, Gertjan has focused on corporate and international taxation. He has vast experience in advising on international tax planning, reorganizations, cash repatriations and refinancing projects. His major clients consider Dutch, European and specifically UK and US listed multinationals. In his advisory role, he has developed a solid and practical knowledge of both US and UK tax law.
In addition, he has been significantly involved in a private equity held Dutch multinationals, where he has advised on typical issues like the tax deductibility of acquisition costs, highly leveraged operations and tax (risk) strategies.
In general, his clients all have a substantial Dutch presence in common. During his career, Gertjan has developed into and can be characterised as a committed and true sparring partner for the Tax Directors, Tax Managers, CFO’s and Controllers whom he works with on a daily basis. These strong client relationships have contributed to the many tax rulings, tax controversies and audits he has been involved in over the years. As such, Gertjan has a solid track record of successful negotiations and concluding agreements with the Dutch tax administration.
