David Stevens

David Stevens is based in Taxand Canada where he is a partner of Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP in the Toronto office. His practice focuses exclusively on taxation, concentrating on corporate tax, personal tax planning and charities. David's corporate tax practice involves advising clients on corporate finance, reorganisations and mergers and international tax planning. David's personal tax and charities practice focuses on succession planning, family trusts, offshore planning, private foundations and charities compliance. David is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario (BA, 1976 and LLB 1979), Cambridge University, England (LLB, 1980) and Université de Montreal (LLB 1986 and DDN 1989). He was a law professor in the Faculty of Law at McGill University from 1983 to 1999. David has appeared on panels and lectured to many organisations. He has also written papers and articles for various publications. Called to the Ontario Bar in 1982, David is currently a member of the Canadian Bar Association, American Bar Association, the Canadian Tax Foundation, International Fiscal Association, the Editorial Board of the Philanthropist, the International Academy of Trust and Estates Lawyers, as well as the Law Society of Upper Canada. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in Canada 2006, 2007 and 2008 (trusts and estates) and LEXPERT’s Canada’s Leading Practitioners 2004, 2005 and 2006 (charities).
