Deborah Neale


Canada
Transaction Tax

Deborah Neale is based in Taxand Canada where she is a partner of Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP. She was called to the Alberta Bar in 1981, and has practiced in most areas of tax planning including small business taxation, estate planning, international and cross border tax issues, mergers and acquisitions, public market debt and equity transactions and corporate reorganisations. Deborah has also advised clients on tax reassessments and audit issues, and provided advice to charities and not-for-profit organisations on tax and structuring issues. Deborah was a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation for 20 years, a former director of the Canadian Petroleum Tax Society and a member of the Tax Specialists subsection of the Canadian Bar Association for many years. From 1981 to 2001, Deborah also advised Aboriginal groups on corporate, commercial and tax matters. She has presented papers at Aboriginal workshops on corporate structures and tax matters under land claims negotiations. Deborah also acted for several bands in the Northwest Territories to establish joint ventures with resource companies, including mining. Since rejoining Canada's Taxand practice, Gowling Lafleur Henderson, in 2007, Deborah has focused on mergers, acquisitions and dispositions, reorganisations and securities and financing transactions in the resource sector.
