Dr. Jamal Hejazi is based in Taxand Canada where he is the Chief Economist, Business Law, and a senior member of the Transfer Pricing and Competent Authority team with Gowling Lafleur Henderson. Working in conjunction with the Firm’s National Tax Practice Group, Jamal helps organisations optimise their global tax position and reduce exposure to unfavourable audit assessments through proper tax planning and implementation strategies. He has been involved in work for a number of industries including automotive, pharmaceutical, energy, computer software, gaming, manufacturing and services. Jamal also specialises in intangible valuation and has done work for both the technology and biochemical sectors.

Prior to joining Canada’s taxand practice, Gowling Lafleur Henderson, Jamal was a senior transfer pricing economist with the Canada Revenue Agency, where he participated in the resolution of a number of transfer pricing issues, including the relief of double taxation on Canadian corporations. He was instrumental in the negotiation of Advanced Pricing Agreements between Canada and foreign tax authorities.

Jamal has also held a faculty position at the University of Windsor and was a lecturer at Carleton University. He is currently a faculty member at the University of Phoenix where he teaches various courses in economics.

Jamal serves on the advisory board of Practical US/International Tax Strategies and also serves as an editor for both the Society of Professional Accountants’ monthly newsletter as well as the AccountingWorld publication.

Jamal has been published widely in leading tax journals and has just completed his latest book “Transfer Pricing – The Basics from a Canadian Perspective”, available through LexisNexis Canada.

Jamal received a Ph.D. in economics from Carleton University in 2004, and a Master’s degree in economics from York University in 1997. Complementing his graduate degrees, Jamal has recently earned the Registered Professional Accountant (R.P.A.) designation and is currently completing his CPA designation in the State of Illinois.
