Jonathan Hornby

Jonathan Hornby is based at Taxand UK, where he is Senior Director with Alvarez and Marsal Taxand UK in London. He brings more than 15 years of corporate and international tax experience. Throughout his career he has worked extensively with multinational organisations, operating across a range of industry sectors including manufacturing, management consulting, shipping, real estate, natural resources and utilities.

Jonathan advises clients on all aspects of corporate taxation, with a particular focus on cross-border matters. His areas of expertise include the application of double taxation treaties, permanent establishments, the UK branch exemption, tax efficient financing, application of the worldwide debt cap, thin capitalisation issues, acquisitions, disposals and cross-border mergers. He has extensive practical experience advising foreign headquartered multi-nationals in respect of their trading and investment activities located in the UK. 

Jonathan’s most recent assignments have included the design of tax efficient financing solutions for a US headquartered public corporation; multi-jurisdictional tax structuring advice in respect of the merger of the European operations of two Japanese head-quartered multinational corporations; advising on the structuring of joint venture arrangements for a publicly quoted real estate group; and due diligence and acquisition structuring for one of France’s Top 10 publicly quoted groups.

Prior to joining Taxand UK, Jonathan spent 11 years with Deloitte’s international tax team in London, where he was responsible for serving large corporate clients. He also spent a significant period of time with Deloitte’s  mergers and acquisition tax team, providing transaction support services and tax structuring advice to both financial and strategic buyers.
