Harry Leonard is based in Taxand USA where he is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Taxand, LLC in New York. Harry focuses on multi-state taxation of corporations, limited liability companies and partnerships. His primary areas of concentration include corporate reorganizations, acquisitive and dispositive transactions, audit dispute resolution, and maintenance of efficiencies in state and local taxation.
With more than 28 years of federal and multi-state tax experience serving multi-state businesses, Harry has built a career serving complex organizations, concentrating on the needs of banks, broker / dealers and insurers.
Prior to joining the USA Taxand practice, Alvarez & Marsal Taxand, LLC, Harry spent two years as Managing Director and head of multi-state tax services with J.P. Morgan Chase, and its predecessor, The Bear Stearns Companies.
Prior to Bear Stearns, Harry served for seven years as Deputy Director of State and Local Taxes with Citigroup Inc. While at Citigroup, Harry was instrumental in the reorganization of its banking and mortgage units. He also achieved recoveries of excess sales and use taxes, and helped to lead a team in managing risks associated with state and local audit assessments. Harry is an industry leader in advocating for changes in the taxation of financial services organizations. In his capacity as Chair of the Securities Industry & Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) tax committee, he has helped to modernize state taxations for broker / dealers and banks.
Prior to Citigroup, Harry was the Tax Director of Prudential Securities Inc. for more than seven years. Previously, he was a senior manager with Deloitte, serving the financial services industry.
Harry earned a bachelor's degree in biology from City University of New York, Queens College, a juris doctor from New York Law School, and a master of laws degree in taxation (LL.M.) from New York University, School of Law. Harry is admitted to practice law in the State of New York, as well as before the U.S. Supreme Court.
